Bio 2.1.2- Analyze the survival and reproductive success of organisms in terms of behavioral, structural, and reproductive adaptations.
Behavioral: Behavioral adaptations are things organisms do in order to survive. It all is based on natural selection and what species do in order to survive. Migration is a huge behavioral adaptation. For example bluefish migrate in dense packs each spring, preying on other fish that come inshore to spawn. Bluefish often leave a trail of blood for miles as they consume other fish.
Structural: Structural adaptations are physical adaptations such as a bird`s beak in order to retrieve food. We did a natural selection activity in biology to show how different structural adaptions influenced a species survival.
Reproductive: An example of a reproductive adaptation is: animals that live on land will either lay eggs (a waterproof egg with a shell) or have their eggs fertilized internally (when the sperm enters directly into the female) because otherwise the eggs would dry out and the offspring would die. Were as animals that live in water (fish or amphibians) don’t need to have internal fertilization or lay waterproof eggs because the eggs will stay wet and will not dry out. So animals on land have adapted their reproductive systems to survive.
