Fossils and biochemical evidence can be used to show close similarities between different species. Fossil records show that the remnants of organisms that once lived have changed significantly over time. Similarities in two species that involve the fossil record and biochemical evidence, as well as anatomical evidence, may reveal features that are homologous as opposed to analogous features. Homologous structures, which can be seen from many methods including fossil and biochemical evidence, support the theory of evolution by showing that different species share traits as a result of their common evolutionary ancestors.
