Bio 2.1.3- Explain various ways organisms interact with each other (including predation, competition, parasitism, mutualism) and with their environments resulting in stability within ecosystems.
Predation: A predator is the hunter and the prey is the hunted. Examples of this relationship would be, a spider in its web, a salamander catching an insect, and a barn owl catching a mouse.
Competition: Animals compete for many things including shelter, food, mates, and space.
Parasitism: Parasitism is a relationship between two organisms where one is usually harmed and the other gets benefits from the relationship. An example of parasitism is mosquitos and humans. Mosquitos get blood from humans and they can transfer diseases such as Malaria.
Mutualism: Mutualism is where both organisms benefit. One example of a mutualistic relationship is the oxpecker and the rhinoceros or zebra. Oxpeckers land on rhinos or zebras and eat ticks and other parasites that live on their skin. The oxpeckers get food and the animals get pest control.
